AS Roma showed interest in Augsburg defender Noahkai Banks during the winter transfer window and even made an offer to sign him, according to reports.

In an interview with Sport Bild, the 18-year-old United States youth international has now reflected on the interest from the Italian giants.

“When I first heard about AS Roma’s inquiry, it was a huge compliment for me,”  said Banks, who had a personal video meeting with AS Roma coach Claudio Ranieri.

“Especially the fact that coach Claudio Ranieri made a personal effort to try to sign me was great.”

Ultimately, though, he stayed at Augsburg, where he’s under contract until 2027.

“At the end of the day, I’m an Augsburg player and I know the club still have big plans for me,” Banks stressed.

So far, he has made seven Bundesliga appearances for Augsburg this season.
