Oliver Baumann did not have the best of nights: his Hoffenheim side lost a crucial game against St. Pauli (0-1) – and he himself played a big role in that defeat.

It was Baumann’s miscommunication with midfielder Tom Bischof, which led to the only goal of the night, scored by St. Pauli’s Noah Weißhaupt. Baumann commented on the situation by saying, that:

“He [Tom Bischof] didn’t see the St. Pauli player coming; from my point of view, we could’ve played it out from the back, but in that case we lost the ball and conceded such a bad goal – unnecessarily.”

The overall performance from Hoffenheim was also criticized by Baumann: “We didn’t find any solutions and were only able to react instead of playing dominantly.”

The 34-year-old however, had some praising words for Hoffenheim’s opponent St. Pauli: “They played very well, they showed a good spirit in their defense, I liked it. We couldn’t do too much to force them into making many mistakes today.”

While Baumann is experiencing a difficult time at Hoffenheim currently, his hopes of becoming the new number 1 in goal for the German national team are still very much alive!

To the question, whether he was Germany’s new starting goalkeeper, Baumann responded: “You’ll have to ask him [Nagelsmann] if you want an answer to that question.”
