After arriving on a free from Werder Bremen last summer, Nick Woltemade has been a revelation for VfB Stuttgart this season, scoring 12 goals in 24 appearances for the Swabians.

Currently a member of Germany’s U-21 side, Woltemade is still waiting for his first senior call-up and is hoping to break into Julian Nagelsmann’s side before next year’s World Cup.

“The 2026 World Cup is a goal of mine. That’s what I’m working towards,” Woltemade told Sky Germany.

“It’s a difficult road, no question, but I’m giving it my all,” added the 23-year-old, who is enjoying life at Stuttgart.

“I’m very, very thankful that the situation is like this and I’m proud of it.”

Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann has said that Woltemade “certainly deserved” a call-up on the basis of his current form, but that he’d like to see if the striker can maintain his good form over a longer period of time.

He also pointed out that Woltemade could play a “key role” at this summer’s European Under-21 Championship.
