It’s been a while posting, but I have enjoyed numerous comments and insightful thoughts on the chelsearumours.co.uk site. I want to believe that Enzo Maresca did not mean to enrage the fans with his comment about ‘ENVIRONMENT’.
Whether he made a huge mess out of it or not, I think he needs to find a way to retract his remarks in the next press conference. The team really needs the fans behind him as confidence is low and it is the responsibility of the manager to get the fans behind the team.
However, I am disturbed by our incessant pursuit of Liam Delap! No matter what angle I look at with this transfer, it leaves a lot of concern for the future of the club. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t have any ill feelings about him and I am endeared by his work ethic, but it doesn’t make sense to me.
1. He’s not an upgrade: U23 yes! Premier league proven? maybe! But is he better than Jackson? I am honestly not sure because his best has not been seen and with another season under the belt for Jackson, he will only get better. Mind you, in an ideal Chelsea, that should prepare Jackson to be a better deputy next season, not as a starting striker!
2. What does the future hold for the youngsters? We have Marc Guiu, Washington, Mhueka and Emegha (Strasburg)? I purposely mention Emegha because what’s the use of a sister club if players cannot be interchanged between clubs? Guiu has shown that he needs playing time, he can get it from a well planned loan, but what happens after that? Emegha’s stats are encouraging this season and i believe the club should have him in their plans as well. He might not be signed imminently, but plans should be in place somewhere. I might be wrong, but Guiu is worth waiting for.
3. I wonder, other than the agents, do the directors benefit financially from transfers? I ask because even a blind man can see that Chelsea need an upgrade in the strikers department, but why are they looking at a relegation team for an upgrade? Do they stand to gain something from such a signing? I fail to understand the signing of some players like Viega, Badiashile, Disasi when you can get Murrilo, Bastoni and others to name a few! Felix, Mudryk, KDH, Sterling, the young guy from Aston Villa and so on. It’s been a scattergun approach!
Conclusion:
I think Chelsea needs to sign a very experienced striker aged 28 and above, at his prime to challenge Jackson and give the youngsters reasonable periods to hone their skills, while he delivers the goals at the same time. Players like Openda, Watkins, Abraham or even Kane etc. This team needs to start getting results fast. If the directors fail to get the signings correct, players like Palmer, Caicedo, Cucurella, Enzo and James will feel discouraged if Chelsea fails to win a trophy in the coming season. I sincerely hope that a miracle will happen and we will get a Champions league spot next season. Up The Blues.
