On Monday, Borussia Dortmund revealed that Nico Schlotterbeck will miss the rest of the season due to a meniscus tear in his left knee.

Borussia Dortmund’s sporting director, Sebastian Kehl, has now provided more clarity on how long the centre-back is expected to be out for.

“Everything happened very quickly. Nico had an operation on Monday evening and will be out for several months around six months, that’s the current prognosis,” Kehl told reporters ahead of Borussia Dortmund’s trip to Barcelona on Tuesday.

“It really has been a shock for us. The loss weighs heavily,” Kehl added.

Schlotterbeck’s absence will only add to Borussia Dortmund’s motivation to get a result in the first leg of their quarter-final tie against FC Barcelona on Wednesday.

“We will do everything we can to make him happy in front of the TV,” said Kehl.
