Although he’s still on track to finish as Bundesliga’s top-scorer, there are still lots of criticisms aimed at Harry Kane’s campaign. For once, his performances in big games haven’t been to his usual standard until the Round of 16 Champions League tie against Bayer Leverkusen.

“It’s like Ronaldo and Messi. There is criticism when they produced those crazy numbers, and then scored 40 goals the next season, instead of 50,” said Kane in a press conference before England’s game against Albania. “It was like they had a bad season. People take it for granted, and maybe a little bit with England, too.

“I’ve scored 69* goals. When you score against Albania or Latvia or teams like that, people just expect it. So, it’ll not be talked about much.” said Kane before netting his 70th international goal in Thomas Tuchel’s debut as a Three Lions coach.

On their popular podcast “The Rest Is Football”, England legends Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer talked about the lack of lowly opponents like Albania during their playing days.

With Bayern leading the race in Bundesliga, Kane is aiming for a first trophy in his otherwise successful career. Bayern are also in the running for the Champions League with the next challenge seeing them face Serie A’s defending champions and league leaders Inter. “I know how things can quickly change in football. And, we’re not getting carried away.” said Bayern’s striker regarding the title race.
