Frank Schmidt gave a brutal but realistic take on his Heidenheim side’s defeat at the hands of Eintracht Frankfurt this evening. The long serving manager felt the result was just rewards for the hosts.
“I saw a deserved win for Eintracht. The 3-0 certainly sounds like a clear win. We started off well, but the first ten minutes were characterized by a lot of turnovers.
“We had chances to take the lead, but after the 1-0, Frankfurt took control and perhaps could have made it 2-0 a little earlier – that’s when it happened.
“We changed things up at halftime, and I told my players: “If the door opens a crack, we have to go through.” We had chances, and we attacked well from deep. But could haves, ifs, and buts – we didn’t make it 2-1. After the 3-0, the game was decided.
“There were phases in both halves when there could have been a turnaround. Frankfurt took better advantage of their chances, were calmer and clearer. We need to defend more consistently; that was too easy”.
