A defeat in Gladbach saw Marco Rose finally lose his RB Leipzig job after endless speculation for months. The club has now made the hiring of his replacement official with Zsolt Löw signing until the end of the season

Peter Krawietz will work as an assistant coach to Löw. The Hungarian previously worked at Leipzig from 2015 to 2018 before joining Thomas Tuchel’s coaching staff at PSG. He also had a valuable experience working as the Head of Soccer Development at Red Bull.

With Leipzig traveling to Stuttgart for Wednesday’s Pokal semi-final tie, Löw will lead his first training session on Monday. During their playing careers, the 45-year-old was a teammate of Marco Rose in Mainz.

After he entered coaching, he worked as Ralf Rangnick’s assistant in Leipzig’s promotion to Bundesliga. He also won lots of accolades at PSG, Chelsea and Bayern alongside the current England national team coach, Tuchel.

“Zsolt Löw has everything he needs to quickly turn things around, and achieve a significant performance boost: extraordinary experience and successful work at top European clubs, and the right approach,” said Leipzig’s managing director of sports Marcel Schäfer.

”It’s now up to the team to turn things around together with Zsolt. At the same time, we’re working on filling the coaching position for the upcoming 2025/26 season.”

“Our entire focus is on the maximum of nine remaining games this season. We still have the opportunity to achieve our goals in two competitions,” said Löw in his first interview as Leipzig’s head coach. “We’ll do everything we can to reach the cup final in Berlin, and get the most out of the remaining Bundesliga season.”

Leipzig will aim to reach a Pokal final for a fourth time in five years when they face Stuttgart in MHPArena. With their next three league games see them face struggling Hoffenheim, Wolfsburg and Kiel sides, Löw could still dream of a Champions League qualification. Leipzig are currently only three points off fourth-placed Mainz.
