Liverpool FC Need Better Backup Players

If that was a glimpse of the future Liverpool FC last Sunday v Portsmouth, then we are in a grave situation. Huge investment is urgently needed during the Summer, the first eleven is superb, but the quality of the backup is seriously poor in defensive options.

Quansah who is now 22 has gone backwards instead of forwards under Arne Slot, who found this out after only 45 minutes of his first premier game in charge at Ipswich. He was bullied then and was also bullied on Sunday by basically a journeyman. A top class centre half is needed as backup for VVD / Konate. It can’t be Quansah, he’s had more than enough chances and i just can’t see him improving.

Don’t think anything needs to be said about Gomez, him going off again summed up his LFC future. As Quansah is now first choice centre back replacement for VVD / Konate – perish the thought!

Tsimikas – to think he is going to be our only replacement for a top class left back (Kerkez, Hato) etc next season, if he has to play regularly because of an injury, we will have big problems. Hopefully, Kerkez and Hato will be exceptional additions.

Think at RB, Mavinga will also be moved on during the summer, Luca Stephenson on loan at Dundee will replace him next season. He has quite promising potential, but only one way to find out – at Arne-field next season. Jury is also out on McConnell. He probably has the biggest shoes to replace in the engine room. Can anyone seriously replace Ryan Gravenberch? I fear not, for me he is the most important player in the team.

I’ll give the benefit of the doubt to Harvey, who was woeful on Sunday, in a game he should have been bossing instead of playing ‘hide and seek’ with his team mates. Diaz also stunk on Sunday, it’s no wonder when the man in your position is “GAKPOWER” whose numbers have risen immensely this season.

The squad has to improve significantly for next season 25/26, and I pray to God we have no serious injuries from now till the end of the season to Arne’s starting eleven, as the squad is seriously threadbare in defensive positions. Injuries and or loss of form are the only things that can derail us now as the finishing line approaches. This is when the big players step up and get counted, and not play ‘hide and seek’ antics.
