Possible Transfer Targets For Manchester United

If Manchester United can get both Cunha and Delap then we will have massively improved our forward line. Adding two EPL proven players who can both score and create goals. Both with their best years ahead of them, with potential to improve and become even better players. They also both look well suited to Amorim’s system.

There are other players in the EPL that would be great options for us. Huijsen for example looks a phenomenal prospect at CB, as does Branthwaite. Although I doubt we will go for a CB this summer. I think extending Maguire’s contract was a way to avoid having to sign a CB this summer. That way funds can be focused elsewhere.

With MdL, Mazraoui, Martinez, Maguire, Shaw, Yoro and Heaven as options we look fairly well stocked. Slight concerns over potential injuries, especially to Shaw and Martinez. Yet we have seen with Fredricson that the three at the back system can provide the kind of security for youth players to come in and play at CB without them being too exposed. While with MdL, Maguire, Mazraoui, Martinez and Shaw we have 5 more senior options, one or two of which should always be available to help lead the defence.

In fact the biggest upgrade to our defence right now must surely be a keeper. Someone who won’t cost us 10 goals a season through individual mistakes, someone who can command their box and help organise the defence would make a massive difference.

As we saw against Wolverhampton Wanderers (who were in good form), we can defend well and restrict teams without our first choice options in defence. Our problem is scoring goals, we created enough chances to win the game against Wolves (even if we weren’t great going forward) . We just couldn’t finish them.

Beyond the front three where we need at least two signings in my opinion, the next area we need to look at is goalkeeper then improving the options in midfield.

There are some good options for keepers in the EPL or Championship. James Trafford has been outstanding for Burnley this season. Hermansen at Leicester is a very good, young, modern keeper who in a better team that can hold onto the ball could flourish. As is Verbruggen at Brighton (although he might be expensive to get this summer) . Jordan Henderson has been outstanding for Palace this season, he probably wouldn’t be a popular choice among fans, but he would be a big upgrade. While Aaron Ramsdale is available for a cut price fee and would also represent a big upgrade, he might not be the ultimate solution. But he would bring stability and character to the squad for the next couple of years, allowing funds to be focused elsewhere to improve the squad overall.

In terms of midfield options, there are some potentially great players in Wharton and Baleba, but they would be very expensive. Probably beyond what we can afford this summer. Elliot Anderson has been phenomenal at Nottingham Forest, but is unlikely to want to leave them this summer and would also cost a fortune. João Gomes would be perfect in my opinion, but I can’t see Wolves selling too many players this summer, and Cunha looks certain to leave with his buy-out clause. More attainable options might me Mathus Fernandes from Southampton (who RA knows well and is a big fan of), or Hayden Hackney from Middlesbrough in the championship.
