I’m writing this as I sit watching another Manchester United match, this time against Bournemouth. I don’t even get angry anymore, i just expect poor play every week at this point.
I appreciate my opinion will not be popular amongst most of you, but this is simply my opinion after supporting United for the past 40 years.
The team has steadily gotten worse week by week. Ruben Amorim (RA) has not improved any player that I can see. As the pundits were saying before the game today, you can’t just cast aside all the players and just buy a new squad. You need to work with what you’ve got and improve them. Most of these players aren’t terrible, they are top flight professionals for a reason.
There are teams above us in the league that have worse players. We’ve lost 4 more games and have a worse goal difference than Everton at this point, and they were on for being relegated earlier in the season. Yet they changed managers and he improved them.
I’m not saying these players are good enough to win the league, we all know they aren’t, but they are definitely better than finishing as the worst team in the league that isn’t relegated, as that’s where they are likely to finish.
The only first team player RA has bought in so far is Dorgu, it’s early days, but if you’re honest, he’s hardly set the world on fire. Looks bang average at the moment. Maybe he will come good, but that’s more hope than anything.
The team can’t score goals, so why agree to let Antony and Rashford go if you know you won’t get any replacements in? Surely those two on the bench at least would have been worthwhile?
Most clubs get a new manager bounce, United got the opposite with RA. The only time he can get a result or a performance is against a top club where he plays with 11 behind the ball. I can’t see how bringing in 3-4 players is going to transform this team during the summer.
My take, RA will make it through the season, and then be given some players that suit this crazy 3-4-3 system, performances won’t drastically improve and by October or November he will be gone.
There’s a very small chance they might win the Europa, but it’s a long shot, like most games this season, we will need a massive load of luck to even get past Bilbao.
RA has the lowest points per game ratio of any manager since Ferguson. He’s setting all the low records. He comes across as a good guy, but they made a mistake hiring him. It’s only a matter of time before they admit that and act on it. We can’t write off next season too.
