With survival on the line, Holstein Kiel knew a win on home soil could massively boost their Bundesliga survival hopes. Meanwhile, Werder Bremen arrived looking to bounce back from a 4-2 defeat to Gladbach in their previous outing.

The visitors struck first in stunning fashion in the 25th minute. Marvin Ducksch stood over a free kick near the touchline and produced an outrageous right-footed effort, curling the ball in off the far post—quite literally the only spot he could have found the net from. It was a moment of brilliance that left Kiel stunned.

In response, Kiel head coach Marcel Rapp made a bold and highly unusual decision, making three first-half substitutions. Marko Ivezic, Lasse Rosenboom, and Phil Harres were all withdrawn before halftime, with Lewis Holtby, Timo Becker, and Shuto Machino coming on in an attempt to shake things up.

As the first half came to a close, Kiel’s aggressive tactical adjustments signalled their intent, but Bremen held firm with their lead intact. The second half promised plenty more drama.

Following the theme of excellent goals, Felix Agu gave the visitors a two-goal lead in the 59th minute with a simply beautiful right-footed, curling effort into the top corner from distance. After his third goal of the season, die Grün-Weißen were in firm control.

Marco Grüll went on to add a third for the hosts from close range in additional time before Bremen saw out the match to secure a 3-0 win, grabbing all three points after a comfortable display on their travels up north.
