Bayer Leverkusen’s hopes of reaching the quarter-finals of the Champions League were dealt the final blow on Tuesday as Bayern Munich won 2-0 to move 5-0 up on aggregate.

Speaking to Prime Video (via UEFA.com) after the match, Bayer Leverkusen captain Lukas Hradecky admitted that Bayern were the better side.

“The last week got the better of us. Unfortunately, we’ve hit a little dip in form. I have to admit Bayern were clearly the better team over two legs. We didn’t score, spurned too many chances. We’re definitely disappointed, but can only work on being better next time.”

He also noted that the absence of Leverkusen’s attacking talisman Florian Wirtz through injury didn’t make things any easier.

“We had a few extra injuries compared to last week – Wirtz, for instance – which made a difference. We expected a lot of ourselves, but Bayern are very experienced and know how to shut down a game. They did that; we barely had any goalscoring chances, and we have to admit they were the better team,” said Hradecky.
